Sectional Tree Dismantling
in Addlestone
Safe, controlled sectional dismantling by NPTC qualified arborists with over 50 years of collective experience. Where space, structure or site conditions prevent a tree from being felled in one one, we dismantle it piece by piece.
What is sectional tree dismantling?
Sectional dismantling is the controlled removal of a tree in sections rather than felling it whole. The tree is taken apart from the top down, removing the canopy piece by piece before working down the trunk.
Each section is carefully cut and either lowered to the ground using ropes and rigging, or dropped into a designated clear landing zone. The result is a tree removed safely and completely, with the surrounding area protected throughout.
It is a highly skilled, technically demanding operation, requiring qualified climbers or access operators, proper rigging knowledge and methodical planning. It is not a job for an unqualified contractor with a chainsaw and a ladder.

When is sectional dismantling the right method?
The tree is in a confined space with no clear ground for a safe directional fell, typical in rear gardens and urban plots.
It is close to buildings, walls or structures where any uncontrolled fall could cause damage.
It overhangs a road, pavement or neighbouring property and cannot be felled without risk to third-party land.
The tree is structurally compromised, making a safe directional fell impossible or unpredictable.
Access is restricted with no clear run to fell the tree to the ground.
The ground beneath must be protected, such as lawns, beds, water features, paving or utility runs.
Where conditions allow a safe directional fell, we will always consider it, as it is generally quicker and less costly. We will tell you which method suits your situation at the free site visit. More on tree felling →

Sectional dismantling methods we use
Dismantling by Climbing: Our arborists ascend using professional climbing equipment to work at height within the canopy. Starting at the top, branches are removed section by section, each cut planned to avoid striking structures, fences or planting. The most versatile approach, usable on most trees in most sites.
Using Our Cherry Picker: Where access permits, we use our own mobile elevated work platform. Working from the basket gives a stable, elevated position and reduces the physical demands of climbing, particularly useful on large, mature trees. Owning our own machine keeps costs down and scheduling straightforward.
Sectional Felling with Rigging: For trees over sensitive ground, structures or boundaries, sections are lowered in a fully controlled manner using ropes, pulleys, friction devices and anchor points set within the tree. Often the only safe approach over tiled roofs, conservatories, vehicles or fixed garden features.
Crane or Grapple Truck Removal: For very large trees or sites where piece-by-piece work would be exceptionally slow, a mobile crane or grapple truck can lift and remove whole sections. A higher day rate, but for certain jobs the labour saving makes it the most cost-effective option overall. We assess this case by case.

TPOs & Conservation Areas
Before any dismantling, we check whether the tree is subject to a Tree Preservation Order or sits within a Conservation Area. Where a protected tree needs removal, written consent must be obtained from the Local Planning Authority first. We handle the application, advise on what the council is likely to approve and manage the timeline.
Consent for removal is not automatic. Where a protected tree can be made safe through pruning or structural work, the council may require retention instead. We advise honestly on the likely outcome before any application is submitted.
